You can have your Apple and eat it too!

Updated: Jun 6, 2022

Why Apple Macs may be a great choice for your company.

For many of us, Apple MacBooks, iMacs and iPads are our preferred computing devices. After all, they’re easy to use, stylish and are tops for graphics, music and media. However, given Apple’s incompatibility with Windows software, along with a higher price tag, many companies have been reluctant to adopt over the years.

But today it is different -- Macs are becoming more mainstream for business as more of our business software is moving to the cloud. And while the price tag is still at a premium as compared to Windows devices, you may find that Macs have a lower total cost of ownership given their lower cost of support and other factors. Apple devices also tend to be more secure, reliable and better at integration across multiple devices.

Here are some other good reasons to consider Apple Macs for your organization.

Cloud Business Software: It used to be that most business software was not Mac compatible. However, many organizations today are migrating their applications to the cloud and accessing over the internet. Referred to as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) this cloud-based software requires only a browser to operate the software and functions the same for both Macs and Windows PC.

Security: It’s well known that Windows PCs have fallen prey to malware far more than Macs in the recent past, including ransomware, spyware, botnets and viruses. While Macs have a cleaner record, they’re not immune to vulnerabilities and also require antivirus software. However, Windows PC security vulnerabilities are exploited more frequently and require vigilant efforts in patching and upgrading.

Stability: Apple devices are well known for their stability and reliability. This is because Apple controls the hardware ecosystem for all their products to ensure it meets their quality standards. On Windows PCs, there are numerous PC manufacturers with third-party drivers that are the key cause of instability, including the infamous ‘blue screen’ that disables your PC.

Ease of Use: Apple Macs, iPads and iPhones are popular mostly due to how easy they are to use. Apple Macs are by far the easiest to use, especially for the non-technical type. This translates to lower cost of support.

Mobile Device Integration: Apple’s integration between their iMac, MacBook, iPad and iPhone are a key attraction for those of us on the move. The seamless integration of software, apps, email, contacts, photos and other data across all my Apple devices allows me to work from anywhere, anytime and with any device that’s convenient for me. And while Windows PCs have been making improvements in this area, the Apple integration features are hands-down the best.

Mobile Device Management: Or MDM as it is known, has come a long way with Apple devices. This means you can manage all your Apple devices from a centralized portal including installed software, security privileges and prevents company data from being downloaded without authorization. At one time, this MDM ability was mostly developed for only Windows PCs. But today, companies such as Jamf and Hexnode provide great Apple MDM solutions that provide that extra layer of IT security and management control.

So, consider again how Apple Macs may be a good fit for your organization. Your staff will be glad you did!
